Pemain asal Uruguay yang bisa menempati pos bek sentral dan bek sayap kiri maupun kanan itu dipinjam dari Sevilla pada bulan Januari lalu dengan opsi pembelian permanen pada akhir musim 2011/12.
Juventus memberikan konfirmasi bahwa mereka telah mengaktifkan opsi tersebut.
